A simple tutorial on achieving a cool "impressionistic" effect with a single frame in Photoshop. This was traditionally done with two individual frames: one in focus and one OoF layered on top of one another in a slide mount. The linked article describes a cool way to simulate that technique using just one photograph & would be well suited to some fine art prints.
It reminds me somewhat of the Monday Morning filter provided by the Nik Color Efex toolkit, but a little less stylized. Here's an example of the Monday Morning filter in use:
The effect is similar, but with less grain and extreme contrast. Each has a place, especially when finishing images purposed for art.
