Cincinnati Internet Phone Service (VOIP)

While this is slightly off-topic for a photography blog, I felt that it could be a useful resource to those photographers in the Greater Cincinnati area who may be looking at broadband internet-based phone services for use as a business line. I didn't have a long list of requirements: I need a Cincinnati local number (area code 513), the cost should be lower than what the Cincinnati Bell would charge (about $25 + long distance), and I should be able to do all the expected things such as VoiceMail, call forwarding, no long distance, etc, without extra charges. Pretty simple really!

I researched a few different options including Vonage, Time Warner Cable Internet Phone, and ViaTalk. After reading up on all of their various details, I finally decided that the ViaTalk VOIP Service was my best option. The service has a boatload of features - I won't list them here, but we'll just say that they've got pretty much anything you could ever want your phone to do - and a really good price. I got their VT_Unlimited plan and paid for 12 months which earned me an additional year for free. All said, the service will run me about $10 a month for the next two years.

I looked into the TimeWarner plan, since I do have Road Runner, but even with their bundling options I couldn't get as good of a deal. Not to mention the fact that they are pretty notorious for nickel-and-diming their customers: precisely what I wanted to avoid with all of this. Vonage lost mostly due to pricing: they've got a month free, but it's not nearly the $10 a month I can get with ViaTalk.

I don't have my number yet, but my package should arrive this week. I'll post my experiences with the service after I've had some time to get used to it.
